DR IAN GOODWIN

Dr Goodwin is a Registered Medical Practitioner. He holds Vocational Registration in the field of Psychiatry. He has the qualifications MBChB (Otago) 1986 and FRANZCP, 1996. He received the Marjory McCallum Medal for Clinical medicine from the University of Otago in 1986. Dr Goodwin has extensive Post-Graduate training and experience in the fields of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (the sub-specialty of Psychiatry that deals with the overlap between physical and mental disorders) and Forensic Psychiatry.

He is a Foundation Member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry and has held a number of senior posts in the Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry service. Dr Goodwin has extensive experience in the preparation of reports for District and High Courts throughout New Zealand. He has appeared as an Expert Witness before District Courts, the High Court, Court of Appeal and Courts Martial, as well as Coroner’s Hearings over the last 17 years. In addition he has extensive experience in the preparation of reports for preventive detention and public protection orders He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Psychological Medicine at the University of Auckland.
